How to get Free Vouchers from Taking Cab or Taxi in 2017

In my previous post on "How to legally make money for taking MRT or LRT in Singapore in 2017", I shared how you can siphon back some cash from travelling on the MRT or LRT during weekdays with Travel Smart Rewards. This post encompasses something similar except it'll take on the form of taxi vouchers!

Firstly, head to CabRewards, a loyalty platform that rewards you for taking Comfort taxi rides. Every ride you take earns you points that can be exchanged for taxi vouchers - unsurprisingly, you earn more points with every dollar. Specifically, 1 Cabpoint per dollar charged.

Cabpoints earned are rounded to the nearest dollar. For instance, if a CabRewards member spends S$15.30, he receives 15 Cabpoints. However, spend $15.50 to receive 16 Cabpoints. 

There's a minimum redemption point requirement - 1,000 points. You'll get to exchange that for a $5 ComfortDelgro Taxi voucher! Another way to look at it is this: you're getting 0.5% cashback for your rides. Check out some of the gifts you can redeem and their required points.

Step by Step Guide

1. Visit CabRewards 

It should look like this:

2. Sign up for an account 

Clicking on the "Sign Up" button on the top-right corner and input your details. Once done, activate your account via the confirmation email sent to you.

Go to "My Account" >> "My Cards" and register your EZ-Link or Nets Flashpay card using the CAN number found at the back of the card.

Voila! You are set on your path to getting your FREE Taxi Voucher! 

At the end of your Comfort cab ride, mention "CabRewards" to the driver and hand your registered EZ-Link or Nets Flashpay Card over to tap on the POS terminal. Listen in for a 'beep' sound when the card is tapped, signalling the successful transaction with the CabRewards system. 

Once done, go ahead with the usual cab ride payments. Within an hour after your ride, you'll receive a notification of your CabRewards transaction, indicating the cost of the trip and points earned. Below is a flow chart provided by CabRewards' website.

Over time, the points accumulated will be significant enough for you to redeem free taxi vouchers! Do check your points earned on CabRewards' website periodically. Once sufficient, click on "Redeem" to pick the gifts that you want to exchange your points for. The vouchers will be mailed to your address. Simply present it to the taxi driver on your next ride to enjoy a cheaper ride (or free, if it's a short journey).
