How to legally make money for taking MRT or LRT in Singapore in 2017

If you are a Singaporean, it is most likely that you would have taken the MRT or LRT once in your lifetime. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, MRT stands for Mass Rapid Transit and LRT stands for Light Rail Transit which are basically trains in Singapore.  And according to data from data.gov.sg,the average number of people taking MRT and LRT in a day is almost 2,900,000 or 2,899,000 (correction given by crispin) to be slightly accurate. That is a huge number considering Singapore having less than 6 million population size if i recalled correctly. 

Since most people have to travel daily via MRT or LRT which cost money, why not make some money at the same time? And that is what i did which you can see from the below screenshot.

The secret is actually a website that allows me to legally make money from taking MRT or LRT called Travelsmartrewards.

Below are the things which you should take note so that you can benefit from it just like i did.

1) What are the cards eligible?

Only certain cepas cards can take part which include 

• Adult EZ-Link cards
• Adult NETS Flashpay cards
• University, Polytechnic and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) concession cards
• Senior Citizen concession cards

Make sure that you have the right card to be able to enjoy the benefits from it.

2) How to earn points for cash?

You basically earn points for taking the train which can be the MRT or LRT. And there are mechanics on how many points you can earn. 

For every 1 km the train travels, you earn 1 point. The longer the travelling distances, the more points you earn. And there are golden period of travelling where you can get more points for travelling the same distance. 3) How to redeem the points for cash?

There are two ways. Either via exchanging the points for cash called 'Cash Buyout' or using the points to play lucky draw to win cash called 'Spin'. Personally, i chose the 'Spin' method and the outcome was more beneficial. I probably earned less then 1000 points but i have gotten $55 already through 'Spin'. If i had chosen the 'Cash Buyout' method, i don't think i would have even gotten $1 till today. And below is how the 'Spin' game looks like.

It is quite simple to play. Simply click on "All my points!" and may you end up waving your hands in joy!
