Get Rewarded for taking Grab Rides with Grabrewards

If you are a Grab user already, then you will definitely want to know more about this. Cause Grab recently introduced something new to make it more rewarding to ride with them. It is called none other than "GrabRewards". 

What is GrabRewards

GrabRewards is essentially a loyalty add-on by Grab to make it more rewarding for users when they use Grab. Similar to credit cards whereby you earn cashback or miles for every dollar that you spend, GrabRewards work the same way as well by giving you points for completing rides with them. And the points can then be used to redeem rewards. So the more rides you have with Grab, the more points you earn that can be used to redeem more rewards. 

Grabrewards is actually quite similar to CabRewards and giving them a run for their money as both are trying to reward users for using their services. But GrabRewards definitely is one up against CabRewards as CabRewards only give you Comfortdelgro vouchers whereas GrabRewards is not limited to Grab discount codes but also rewards from the partners that they work with as well. There is Shopee, Agoda, Althea, Timbre+, Chope, Naiise Zalora and more to come.

How to Earn Points

Personally, I am not too sure what is the conversion like. But based on my recent trip whereby i paid $20, i was awarded 238 points, so it is about 12 points for $1 spent. And from their faq page here, it states that points earned are based off a combination of the vehicle type, the distance travelled and the fare paid. So it isn't very clear on how it is calculated as there are so many variables involved.

There is also GrabRewards Membership levels that provide different benefits to user as well which starts from member, Silver, Gold and Platinum. It is probably a way for them to distinguish the user type and provide different services, just like airlines where you have budget, economy, business class and first class.

Personally, I feel that this is a good move by Grab as it is increasing the benefits to users which will help in retaining and increasing the frequency of rides by users. With promo code, discounts, credit card cashback, cashback from cashback sites like shopback and now rewards from partners, it is tilting users towards them rather then their competitors. Of course it will lead to more cost for Grab and they are definitely losing money still based on their current operation methods. But in the long run, hopefully it will pay off for them not only in the transport vertical but payment, shopping and loyalty vertical.
