Why Circles.Life is making life difficult for Singtel, Starhub and M1

Ask anyone what are the telcos in Singapore and they will probably mention to you Singtel, Starhub or M1. If you tell them that there are actually four telcos, they may find it difficult to answer you what is the fourth one. Cause the fourth telco, Circles.Life, only came about in May 2016 which makes them about 10 months old today. But despite its short existence in Singapore, it is proving to be a force to be reckon with. Check out their company website to see what they offer here.

And recently, they upped the game by introducing an unbelievable offer which makes it irresistible for people who uses data alot. For only $20, you get an additional 20GB data usage. That is like paying $1 for 1GB. Compared to other telcoms, it is a no-brainer what is the smartest choice to make. For Singtel, it is $8.56 for 1GB (source), Starhub is same at $8.56 (source) for 1GB and its closest competitors is $2.95 for 1GB by M1 (source).

To create hype and spread the word, they did a guerrilla marketing tactics by engaging Youtiao666 to vandalize the fake ads placed in Bugis MRT. It is definitely a smart move to create hype to launch their new products as it eventually resulted in the videos being viral. Check out the video below to watch them in action of vandalizing the fake ads and people taking videos of them.

And below is the video of their advertisement on their facebook page for the $20 get 20GB deal.

And to make things even more awesome for their users, they adopted a similar tactic like dropbox whereby if you refer others to sign up through your referral code, you get additional data and there is no cap to the amount of bonus data you can get. What makes it even cooler is on top of the bonus data you get for referring others, you can even earn extra rewards like a ride in a SuperCar which these two top users managed to do so in the video below. Check out their experience in riding the SuperCar as their rewards.

On a whole, Circles.Life is definitely taking the right approach in understanding the needs of people in Singapore which is data. With its competitive pricing and straightforward product offerings, I would expect more people to switch over to Circle.Life over time. Of course, the other telcos are not going to stand by and watch as Circles.Life acquire market share away from them. With more competition, consumers will benefit and it will be interesting to see who will make the next move.

I just recently recontracted my phone with Singtel so am stuck with them for the time being. Hopefully when my contract ends, Singtel would have come up with something similar then I will not have to change telco.

Hope you have benefited from this post. If any of you are already a Circles.Life user, feel free to contact me here if you want me to post your referral code in this blog post.
