7 Ways to Hit Minimum Spending for Credit Cards to Earn Cashbacks

If you are using a credit card that gives cashback instead of points or miles, most likely it has a minimum spending criteria that you need to hit before you are allowed to earn cashback. If you fall below the minimum spending, you may end up with $0 cashback or very small amount compared to the amount that you would have gotten if you managed to hit the minimum spending.

Don't fret if you are finding difficulty in hitting the minimum spending as below are 7 ways to help you hit the minimum spending and earn the cashback that you deserve.

1: Be a Volunteer for Group Outings
Volunteer in paying for group expenses first such as meals or entertainment. Not only does it save everyone time and the cashier in trying to count the money from everyone, it also makes life easier for your friends as everyone can do a bank transfer to you if they don't have enough cash on hand.

One caveat to take note is that you may risk forgetting who owed you money so do keep track of it which for my case, i use google spreadsheet.

2. Drive for Uber/Grab
If you are looking to make extra money by driving for uber/grab, then you would have to spend money on petrol and car rental if you do not have your own car. And all these expenses can be paid for with credit card. Check out this post "Why Buy Car When You Can Rent Cheap and Conveniently: Smove" if you are looking to drive for uber and also to read my reviews about the car that i rented from.

3. Buy things to sell
If you have a keen eye for value and is able to know what is being sold cheaply that can be resold for a profit, you can consider doing reselling. How it works is that you buy the item with your credit card and then post the item for sale online at a price higher than what you paid for. Do take note in ensuring that the profit margin is large enough since prices of consumer goods are expected to fall over time. For me i always aim to get 20% profit margin or absolute profit amount of at least $10.

4. Pay for Big purchases like Insurance via Cardup
Do you know that you can pay for your condominium management fees or school fees or property rental with your credit cards? Yupe, you read it correctly. It is now possible with the help of Cardup.co Check out their website here on how to do it and hit the minimum spending easily.

5. Buy Gift Cards
If you buy stuff consistently online, do consider buying their gift cards. This would allow you to bring forward your spending but you do not have to purchase the items now. You can use the gift card to offset your purchases later when you are ready to use the items.

6. Use Grab/Uber instead of flagging for Cab
If you take cab alot, do consider using Grab or Uber instead as it allows you to pay using your credit cards. At the same time, they often have promotions of their voucher codes which can help to lower your cab spending.

7. Help to Volunteer to buy Birthday Presents
How many times have you been in a situation with your friends where you all are sharing to get birthday presents? This is one of the opportunities for you to volunteer to buy and help save everyone the hassle. Since you are taking the effort to help buy the presents, surely earning cashback for it is a form of reward.

Just recently had a friend "camxcamx" who used my credit card to get cashback for her sephora purchase. There was 20% voucher code and 15% cashback through ShopBack plus 5% cashback from my credit card. If you do the math, a $100 purchase would become nett $64 which is like 36% off. I hit the minimum spending and she get additional cashback, win-win situation for both of us.
