If you had asked me 15 years ago what are the ways one can sell their stuff, I probably would have given you a blank face and pointed you towards the direction of Cash Converters. It is almost unthinkable that fast forward to today, there are so many ways to sell your stuff. It has become so easy for anyone to sell stuff online simply by taking a few pictures and clicking of the mouse.
No matter if you are a casual seller who is simply trying to clear unwanted items from your home or a hardcore seller who sells stuff for a living, these 5 websites that I am going to share with you are suitable for your various needs. I personally have used quite a number of websites to sell stuff and compiled the 5 best websites for you to sell stuff online.
1. HardwareZone Forum
For those who are into tech and geeky stuff, you are most likely familiar with this website HardwareZone where you get to find out about the latest news and discussions about tech stuff. But did you know that you can also reach out to their huge user base and sell stuff there too? They have a section in the forums that is called “Marketplace” (https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/marketplace-250/) where you can simply post the stuff you have for sale. It might be difficult at the beginning to learn how to use the interface and adding pictures but once you get the hang of it is actually a decent website with monthly visits of 7.7 million.

2. Gumtree
I have used this website to sell stuff for about 10 years already and quite like its clean and simple looking interface. You can post the stuff that you want to sell and include pictures with it. There are no cost to listing an item for sales on the website. But if you want to make your item get more views, there is an option for you to pay to have your listings appear at the top. The website’s average monthly views are 960K which isn’t too shabby.

3. Craiglist
If you want to know how websites looked like in the past, then Craiglist is the website that will bring you back to the past. The website interface looks very old-school and nothing seems to have changed much since I used it for more than 10 years ago. It was started in the US in 1995 and was initially an event listing website for people to find events that are happening in their area. There are now multiple offerings available on the website such as jobs, housing, services, and forums but the look and feel seem to remain the same. The website monthly average visits are 340 million but this is based on global visits instead of Singapore only.

4. eBay
A popular and well-known website that I used a lot to sell stuff online is eBay. What makes eBay unique was its auction buying system that allows people to have a unique way of selling stuff which is by auction. Buyers can bid on the item and there is a countdown timer. When the timer ends, the buyer with the highest bid wins and gets to buy the item. This novelty way of selling attracted millions of people worldwide to buy stuff via eBay. Listing items for sale on eBay has fees and there is also commission charged if payment is done through the platform. With about 874k monthly website visits, it may or may not be worth the cost of paying to list.

5. Carousell.
The most popular classified website and also home-grown is Carousell. It started in 2012 with a 3 man team that had so many things going against them. They had neither the financial resources or talent compared to bigger companies. But they more than compensated for it with their hard work and perseverance which now sees Carousell being found in 9 countries across the world. The website and app have improved by leaps and bounds and they included more features that made it easier for sellers to post listings and also safer for buyers to make a purchase. Carousell is by far the most popular classified website for selling stuff online.
